Our School's Previous Robotics Achievements:

We first discovered about these competitions last academic year, and have since been to the National Finals for both competitions, achieving several awards and trophies.
2003:
The "No Limits" challenge was all about how technology can be used in order to address and remove
barriers for the less able bodied.
In addition to the task of conducting a scientific research project, we were required to
design, build and program a robot to perform various missions. The robot missions were based on the
challenges that disabled people have to face everyday, and for the research project, our team had to
find out about a particular disability, raising awareness, and changing people’s attitudes about it.
We chose to investigate visual stress, as 5 members of our team experience this
condition. As part of the research project, we had to raise awareness about visual stress. We
felt the best way we could do this was to produce a web site for kids about visual stress,
the barriers they face in school and the best ways of surviving.
We would like EVERYONE to know about visual stress and how we are helped by wearing coloured
lenses!
We called our team the Eye Robots and designed our own logo, (we hope you like it!)
and made lots of animated gifs:

RESULTS:
In 2005, our school took on the First Lego League Challenge again, which was, this time, entitled 'Ocean Oddyssey'.
Our Team was called "The AQUA AMBERS", and we researched the effect that switching on a lightbulb and generating electricity has on our oceans' biodiversity and productivity.
We participated in the Regional Finals, where our robot qualified in its missions for the final round. Unfortunately, we did not get through to the Nationals, but achieved the Robot Construction award.
In 2003, our Lego League team got through to the Nationals, and won an award for robot
design. The Robocup Junior Dance teams also did well in the regional finals, and one team
competed in the National Finals.
2004/05:
The following year, we entered two teams for the Lego League Competition. The 'Extra Access'
team won an award for their powerpoint Presentation about wheelchair access within schools
at the Regional Finals. Unfortunately, they did not get through to the National Finals, but
our team, the EYE ROBOTS won both the Regional and National Finals, and we were invited to
represent the UK in the International Finals in Atlanta, USA in 2005.
After competing in the First Lego League Competition this year, six members of our EYE
ROBOTS team went on to form the team: "The FLYING HEROES", and participated in the
Robocup Junior Robotics Dance Competition 2004-05.
Our team won the UK national finals; and we represented our country along with another
qualifying UK team at the finals in Osaka. We won 2nd overall place in the worldwide
competition, gaining 2 additional major awards.

A team of Amberfield schoolchildren (some of us who were also in the 'Aqua Ambers'
and 'Phantom Phoenixes teams this year) participated in the First lego League "No Limits"
Challenge 2004/05.

The EYE ROBOTS Website also provides information about our chosen research topic, the
condition of visual stress. It offers help and advice to those who experience it for
themselves, and features The EYE ROBOTS Survival Guide to Visual Stress.

we had won overall!
We were then selected to represent the UK at the International Finals of First
Lego League, in Atlanta in the USA.
UK National Champions!
The competition in Atlanta was an incredible experience, and we all learnt a great deal
about robotics. After performing our presentations in front of a panel of judges, and
competing on the robot table in three rounds, we came within the top 30 on the robot table,
and received an award for Gracious Professionalism. We were all presented with medals, and
were given a certificate in recognition of the award.
