The 2005 Lego League challenge, entitled ‘Ocean Oddyssey’, was all about how technology can be used to address and resolve problems for the oceans, focusing on the way in which something that we do can affect marine biodiversity, health & productivity.
Our team chosen to examine the impact that switching on lightbulb and generating electricity has on the oceans. We have explored the inevitable impacts on our local waters, including the effects of Global Warming & Ocean Acidification.
We also had to come up with an innovative technological solution to resolve the problems...
In addition to the task of conducting a scientific research project, we were required to design, build and program a robot to perform various missions. The robot missions were based on the challenges that have to be faced in order to help our oceans.

and participated in the Robocup Junior Robotics Dance Competition the same year.

We built 2 robotic birds, Hero & Heroine; which we programmed to dance to the song 'Holding out for a Hero'.
We choreographed our own dance routine, as we chose to dance alongside our robots.

Our team won the UK national finals; and we represented our country along with another qualifying UK team at the finals in Osaka. We won 2nd overall place in the worldwide competition, gaining 2 additional major awards.

Our website provides information about our chosen research topic, the condition of Visual Stress.
It offers help and advice to those who experience it for themselves, & features
The EYE ROBOTS Survival Guide to Visual Stress.

We also had to research an innovative technological solution to resolve the problems...

In addition to the task of conducting a scientific research project, we were required to design, build and program a robot to perform various missions. The robot missions were based on the barriers imposed by daily life that disabled people have to face.
